| 1389147 | 2014-11-28 21:26:00 | How long before the Do-Gooders and Prison Reformists start bleating that Smith's rights are not being taken into fair consideration. Maybe he should be placed in a cell with the Black Power brotherhood :) Herald article (www.nzherald.co.nz) |

Having a trial for escaping from custody would mean that he at least would not be able to apply for parole for within the next five years. After that he would find parole boards reluctant to let him out. | Bobh (5192) | ||
| 1389150 | 2014-11-29 18:13:00 | Looks like he could be spending the rest of his life in prison. . No-one does here. It's just our justice system, a smack on the hand for most things, or even if there is a sentence, being let out, getting released after hardly anytime etc. He just took advantage of it. I'm with the victims and relatives - better if he had stayed in their prison |

Cancel his Passport, notify the respective authorities, and forget about him would be my approach. I suppose he came back Business Class to boot. |

Cancel his Passport, notify the respective authorities, and forget about him would be my approach. That's why we have treaties. In this case, Brazil (without an extradition treaty in place), and Interpol and our local constabulary cooperated with each other to achieve a win win outcome. |
