443073 2006-04-09 01:01:00 No worries Misty! :-)

I think overall it seems current dsl users arent really getting the speeds theyre supposed to for varying reasons. There are always things we can do at our end to improve bandwidth although it appears be more telecom equipment related.

443074 2006-04-09 10:18:00 I saw a mention of "contention ratio" . I believe this to be the reason for the varying results. Im on 1Mbit wireless and my friend is also now on 3.5Mbit dsl.

What that means is that under the current Telecom structure the ratio could be 100:1. Therefore 100 people could all be sharing the same line and if you all use it at the same time then you will be worse off than dial up. The more people using the line at the same time, the slower your downloads/uploads

Term_X. Have you tried using the registry patch posted on this page? If so, did it improve your download speed as it claims?

443076 2006-04-09 12:38:00 hey jhardy

the last time i was on dsl was just under 2 years ago and when i installed those registry patches.. i didnt really notice any difference, i usually seemed to get close to the speeds for the plan i was on at the time.

thats not to say it wont make a difference for you! try them and see what happens.

443078 2006-04-10 06:34:00 They said they were going to be increasing speeds by the end of April, so they probably haven't gotten around to your account yet (I think it might be related when you pay your monthly bill). I'm on the North Shore and my connection now technically has 3.5MBit capacity but the reality is that over the last month or so the actual speeds I have been able to get out of it have dropped from around 2MBit to about 1.6MBit... maccrazy (6741)
443079 2006-04-10 07:16:00 LOL from the speed drops I think I would rather stay on 2M :D The_End_Of_Reality (334)
443080 2006-04-12 10:30:00 my 2mbit... has been less than 512kbit most of the time, even got a reading of 86kbit! NZLcyclist (329)
