443399 2006-04-03 07:43:00 Hello members
For a while I thought to have a static IP ,that's how it was looking in the setup of the D-Link 302G. Anyway it isn't and I found out that xtra wants $20.- more for that.
Are there any other providers that are more modest on this charge?
Would be nice to hear what's out there.

Thanks

443400 2006-04-03 08:08:00 Paradise provides static IP at no extra charge.
I switched from Xtra 2 years ago because of that.

443402 2006-04-03 08:40:00 Pretty sure that Orcon does. That's how it was, whether you wanted it or not. However might be worth asking to see if it's still the same. Greg (193)

Orcon does. They used to provide good value for money AND a free static IP address. Now their plans are really only good value for money if you really need the static IP address.

443405 2006-04-03 11:03:00 How much? The more extreme Xtra plans include fixed IP if required at no extra charge. PaulD (232)
443406 2006-04-03 12:35:00 Just use a free no-ip redirection (here (www.no-ip.com) ) and run the dynamic dns updater on the PC to keep the redirection current. Much easier to remember a word like myserver.no-ip.com than a bunch of numbers and if someone gets hold of your IP address reboot your router to refresh it.

I've used a no-ip redirect for the past few years with no issues whatsoever, for things such as file access, vnc, game servers, voice servers, web cam streaming (when the dog was a pup it was our babysitting service - had all the family and friends logging in to take a look lol) etc

443407 2006-04-03 13:31:00 BUT you can't tunnel IPv6 packets using a dynamic DNS service. IP6 tunneling (e.g. tunnelbroker.net) requires a real IP address to work. Erayd (23)

Thanks
that sounds very interesting. So with using a no-ip redirection it is (virtualy)the same situation like having a fixed IP? My querry comes from the use of P2P, as that needs a fixed IP?
So would it work in my case? Have you got any experience in that?
