2006-04-03 04:36:00 | Hi, I have reinstalled "thatgame" chess in my replacement computer and set it to operate as per W 98SE ( I suspect the program too old for XP) although even using XP for the last three years with the old pooter, I did not have anything like this- and even then only had 512 mb ram- I get instant opening from the workbench Icon (shortcut ), then a slow exposure of the e mail conversation panel, and an even slower cursor when moving pieces etc-- a real jerk/ a disappearance of the cursor for 5 seconds then it reappears beyond where I had placed the point I wanted. As far as I am aware my long time apponent Smithie 38 who has a very fast pooter and 1 gb ram does not have that trouble- is it a lack of Ram that is my trouble--I have 512 mb and everything else moves instantly ( thank God) Remember I had the same ram before and the same ram now- all that should be different is 3 GHZ cpu as against 500 Mb then :help: effie c

2006-04-03 09:45:00 | Hi Effie (Ed) I have never had any problems with " That Game" when I have upgraded my pooter. All the stuff on your old HDD was transferred over to your new one and "that game' should be running as normal, but much much faster now with your increased speed of the CPU. You had recent threads about not being able to download "that game" and some F1ers gave you advice and I wonder if you downloaded a version that is faulty. Have you tried to redownload, to see if this helps. Maybe if I started a game from my archives to see if the problem is still there then. Cant do that until the weekend unfortunately Keep me posted

2006-04-03 21:57:00 | Hi Smithie38 Great to hear from you- hope you are WARM :D I have had no luck from F1 overnight- what does not make any sense is the program loads instantly- then the e mail panel creeps up as does the top, down and th ecursor disappears and each move takes about 3 minutes- so slowly that one of my apponents who slung off at my slow reply yesterday, I have told to be patient. It has to be a setting but where?--I even set the program up to be opened by # 98 / and W 2000 in case the speed of this CPU was too great, as against when thatgame started-( about 2001) If you can spare the time ;) think and tell :badpc: effiec (Ed)

2006-04-04 06:47:00 | Hi effie c (Ed) Too hot to think over here but if you are using the same program that you used on your old pooter, and have not been "fiddling" ;) then it should work as before. Maybe you will need to try and redownload a new program for it, other than that I really dont know. However I hope you have the problem sorted by the time I come home as I dont wish to be held up waiting for you to make your moves :D Also this seems to be the only way we can communicate at the moment as your new pooter seems to lose emails when you press the "send" button. Maybe it is due for a grease and oil change already :D Smithie

2006-04-04 06:55:00 | Try [n]not[/b] setting it to "operate as per W 98SE". Maybe that setting is like the "turbo" switch on a PCAT 286, which slowed the clock to 4.57 MHz, so games wouldn't be unplayable on 12 MHz CPUs. :D | Graham L (2) | |
2006-04-04 07:37:00 | Hi Graham L and I suppose I should greet smithie38 ( who has deserted his mother country ) for a short time, socialising I assume :D Hi Roy, I yam, I yam replying, as always- and I have NOT being 'fiddling"- shame on ya :D Too much lazing around eh? Hi graham L , after my usual banter with me ole mate,- back to earth, and it's problems, I tried all the other OS near when this program was made ( 2001, I see) but it made no difference-including W 98, W2000 etc- even when I came back to XP it still goes dead slow, quite suddenly. One point tthis version of XP is dated 2004 whereas my other one was v 2002- any thoughts on that? I have used every cleaning system -local "search",RegSeeker etc that I have available and eliminated anything with thatgame files in it- except in "my documents" where I stored the 207 mb file in case I lost the others - found 12 - eliminated them- no difference-- but now await a resend from Sweeper , who copied and forwarded Godfather's original send which had arrived on my old computer- with a corrupted file- must have been the old machine. I had to ask Sweeper because I do not know G F address Even after the cleanout ( proved when I tried to open a move from Smithie38 which then asked which program I wanted, etc- not normal but proving nothing left in the h/d. The stored thatgame in my docs did as before- instant open but dead slow from then on For what it is worth, when I sent a thatgame move back to another apponent, who never got it - now that apponent is asking why I am not replying to his moves-- inferring it is so corrupt it won't send Verbose people? so be it --- talk to me bones :badpc: effie c

2006-04-04 14:53:00 | effie c: You don't need to know email addresses for forum members in order to communicate with them. PressF1's Private Message system will do the job perfectly for you, and you can store up to 50 messages. Have you ever tried it?

2006-04-04 21:42:00 | Hi Laura, No, I did not know that, thanks- I am now looking at a faulty download as even the version stored in My Docs - instead of starting to install now opens instantly then goes real slow- so there has to be an install file missing. effie c
