2006-04-02 06:40:00 | Once 3.5M comes online, what type of download speed should we expect to see??? 350 KB/s?

2006-04-02 06:47:00 | 350KB/s is best case, most ISPs will still have the same size/speed pipe to the outside world, for much of what you do i would expect only a small change. | robsonde (120) | |
2006-04-02 06:48:00 | If this is right, 2048 Kilobits per second (2M) is 256 kilobytes a second (divided by 8) so if this is right 3.5*1024=3584 Kilobits per second then divided by 8=448 KiloBytes Per second. In theory anyway

In theory anyway Thats the theory and for raw data may be but remember ALL net traffic has overheads of data packets which add data to the actual data and thus your true throughput will be lower anyway. With a 2Mb line the best transfer speed I have ever gotten is 240KB/sec give or take |

2006-04-02 10:24:00 | Eh! You cant get 3.5Mb/s  you will only get 350KB/s aproxActually, you should be able to get over 400KB/s as a max speed as someone mentioned above (you divide it by 8) depending on how close you are to the exchange. My connection speed is now 3904Kbps rather than the old connection speed of 2500Kbps(ish). The max I seem to be able to get out of it is 270KB/s so I have obviously been speed up but without further testing I couldn't really tell you whether I am getting the full 3.5MBit (the speed test seems to be going quite slowly for me for some reason so I assuming it isn't accurate considering I appear to be getting higher speeds downloading other files).
