| 444103 | 2006-04-05 07:50:00 | OK so I got my new modem in the mail today, got home ran the disk plugged the filter in checked with telstra the the switch at the exchange had been flicked(or whatever they do) and when I try and connect I get a "No dial tone" error!!!!!!!! what the hell does this mean? Help desk were talking about sending a tech out at a cost of 150 bucks, the war office aint keen on that so what else can I do? Cheers |

| 444104 | 2006-04-05 07:53:00 | No dial tone means you didnt plug the other end of the line into the back of the modem. Did you plug one end into the back of the modem?? And the other end into the jack, or wherever you plug it into? Or if the modem has got 2 connections on the back of it, you've plugged the phone line into the wrong one. Plug it into the other. I take it you DID plug the modem in whatever it is, and plugged the cable in from the phone jack to it, not plug it into the normal modem, and since it isnt connected at all, thats why u get the no dialtone message. |

| 444105 | 2006-04-05 08:07:00 | I would have to agree with Speedy, no dial tone means there is no connection to the phone line, are you using an extension cord and do ALL the phone sockets on that line have filters? Wow that is expensive, with Telecom they say $80 |

Phone jack in wall with double plug one line going to cordless one coming to pc . line with pc has filter at the end of extension with black cord going into "line" on modem . have USB plug on modem with cable going to usb port on pc . I thought it was fairly straight forward? am I right? |

That'll be another reason why there's no dialtone. lol I wouldnt have a clue if its right or not. I'm not on BB. Either that or change the dialup from the internal modem (I take it there's an internal modem). To the dialup you just created for the broadband. It might be trying to dial out from the onboard modem which obviously isn't connected to the phoneline, which is why you're getting the no dialtone message. |

| 444109 | 2006-04-05 08:23:00 | No Dial Tone ????? The comment "Plugging a filter in" would suggest that this is an adsl modem, which doesn't require a dial tone . . . . The modem should come with step by step instructions, I would start over from fresh and work your way through it . |

If I understand correctly, you have the filter connected to the line going to the modem. Filters should be attached to all lines except the line to the modem according to wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org). I don't know if this will fix the problem as I don't have broadband but it may get you one step further, if I interpreted your setup correctly. Good luck. |
