443601 2006-04-03 23:25:00 Hi, i have a toshiba satellite 1800 series here with me, i want to format it and re-install windows, when i turn the laptop on flashes up splash screen saying toshiba then it asks for a password (i assume this has been set in bios), i enter the password then it straight away starts loading windows xp. i want to enter the bios so i can choose to boot from the cdrom, i dont know what brand of bios it is so i dont know the key compbinations of if i can even get into it, i've tried del esc F2 ctrl+alt+esc during the toshiba splash screen and after i type the password. does anyone have any ideas how i get into this laptops bios?

Also, i have a couple of 'product recovery cd's' here with me, do these kind of cd's contain drivers for the motherboard and chipset?

443602 2006-04-03 23:27:00 haha im stupid, on the splash screen that flashes up for about half a second i managed to read in small print "press F12 to select boot device" or something, so i can now boot to cd, but still wondering about the product recovery cd's? Jimmy D (2061)
443603 2006-04-03 23:44:00 THe product recovery CD's should format and restore the notebook back to its original factory state so it will be just like it was when you bought it. CYaBro (73)
443604 2006-04-03 23:44:00 The product recovery CDs (mine came with a DVD) usually reinstall Windows and all hardware specific drivers plus any preinstalled applications in a single operation.

Where they also supply the XP CD separately, the product recovery will usually contain any pre-installed software and drivers.

Generally its a complete image. Occasionally they do it properly and give you actual drivers you can access too.

If you just want the drivers, find out what brand it is and download them. You can usually find them on the laptop "manufacturers" website....
