| 443956 | 2006-04-05 01:04:00 | Have a computer here that was totally dead i.e. nothing happened when attempting to turn it on. After a few tests I found that everything works fine if I pull out the connection to the motherboard for the front USB connectors. Anyone come across this before and would there be a solution so the front usb could be used? Any suggestions would be gratefully received :badpc: | wlowscrk (395) | ||

| 443958 | 2006-04-05 01:34:00 | Sounds like the system I formatted last week . The guys Sony MD walkman was plugged into a front USB port (and back USB port) . (this is a Packard Bell PC) . And the system would sometimes hang on the post screen, the screen where it shows you whats in the system, and also on the XP logo screen . Unplug it and it boots fine . I thought it may have been the shoddy PSU that was in his case previously (280w), but putting a 320w in it made no difference . Somehow I think this guys case maybe shorting, coz the onboard LAN (which according to the guy, was working before), video, and sound are dead . Even tho XP detects the LAN, and sound . I may have to take it to bits and see if something is shorting . |

Computer came to me like this. Friends daughter had been using usb port to charge her mp3 player or something. Also needs the cdrw unit to be fixed (emptied) because a disc shattered inside it :horrified. Checked front usb header in both available places on the motherboard same result - plugged it = computer dead in the water and unplugged = everything fine. Only two ports in the back so I think I will suggest a usb extension cable for easy access or even a little usb four port hub. And keep daughter away from computer  - fat chance of that I am picking :D Cheers wlowscrk |

| 443960 | 2006-04-05 01:49:00 | This one is completely dead Speedy in fact I tried a new power supply first off as that sounded like the obvious solution but that wasn't the problem I discovered - Guess the usb must be shorting out the power on pins somehow. I think friend's daughter said she heard a bang before it went dead. Cheers wlowscrk |
