444647 2006-04-07 00:33:00 OK, I'm having a problem with one of my coworkers personal Laptop that I have never experianced before .

It is running XP Pro & IP Settings are set to auto and it has a good lease on an address, and the correct Gateway, and DNS Servers listed .

It can ping the Router, and other computers in the office, but not either DNS . and therfore can't access browse .

All the other office computers (~20) are using the same DNS servers and work fine .

Does anybody have a sugestion on what to do next? I just found a couple of good External IPs including this site that I am going to try and ping tomarrow .

The person has Comcast Cable Internet at home and used it there last ~3 weeks ago .

444648 2006-04-07 02:20:00 You will need to set its Gateway address to your router's IP, so it knows where to find the "world". Graham L (2)
444649 2006-04-07 19:14:00 The gateway is set correct. This morning I came in and tried to work on it. I can ping external websites, but still not the DNS Servers. I was able to get to them for a few seconds while windows was still booting, but after everything was loaded I couldn't get to them anymore. jthornburgh (10161)
444650 2006-04-07 21:24:00 You say you can ping external websites...are you doing this by name? If so you must have some form of dns working. Try flushing the dns cache ipconfig/flushdns and then try pinging again. Does it still work? What are the results of an nslookup?

Heres what I would do:

Flush the dns cache
Release and renew ip address
Check the host files to make sure there are no strange entries stopping your dns servers i.e the names of the servers pointing to wrong ip addresses
If it still doesnt work I would put the ip address and gateway / dns entries in manually and see if it worked then.

Try these things and see how you get on.
