| 444203 | 2006-04-05 12:05:00 | I am currently trying to reinstall an Epson Stylus C45 printer to a friends HP PC with Windows ME. The printer has previously worked fine till a recent crash. A partial recovery was done and the printer has not worked since. All else seems fine. Printer, cable and installation disk are fine as the printer installs OK on my own PC. I have done an uninstall before attempting to reinstall this time after an earlier unsuccessful effort. I have shut down all running programs to install. On installation I get a message as it looks for the printer port that the printer may not be connected properly or a different printer may be connected. Eventually it shows that the software installation has completed. I think the PC is not seeing the printer correctly. By default the installation has set up LPT1 as the port, but should this not be another port as the printer is plugged into a USB port? I take LPT1 to be the older printer port on the back Control Panel/ Printers/Properties however has no USB ports showing as an option. It shows Comms Port (Com1), Comms Port (Com 2), and Printer Port LPT1. But no USB Port(s). The PC actually has 3 USB Ports. 2 rear and 1 front. I have changed to both the other Comms port options in turn and rebooted each time but to no avail. Control Panel shows the Device Manager shows the same ports available and says they are functioning OK The printer does show up in Device Manager as Epson USB Printer and if I set the port back to LPT1 it shows up further down in Device Manager under Other Devices as Epson Stylus with a large question mark. A frustrating problem, can anyone please help. Thanks Johnny |

This time the printer reinstalled without any problems at all. Something left on the drive after the crash causing a conflict with the printer load? It remains a mystery, a lot of work reloading everything but who cares, it works! Thanks to all who gave it some thought. Johnny |

| 444207 | 2006-04-21 11:32:00 | Wish I had seen this earlier.. if it happens again, try installing the drivers.. if it only thinks the printer is on LPT1 you can open the printer properties, under the details tab, you can capture another printer port. You should be able to enable USB port here | Myth (110) | ||
| 444208 | 2006-04-23 18:28:00 | Thanks Taz. I did try that. Actually it was only installing to LPT1 because after a couple of attenpts it couldn't hook up with a USB port. A mystery indeed, probably won't see it again either. Thanks for the thought. Johnny |
