444090 2006-04-05 08:30:00 In my taskbar it has a icon telling me that I can safely remove hardware. When I looked to see what hardware it was talking about, it says that it is my hard disk drive! Ofcourse I don't want to disconnect my harddrive! How can I make this safely remove hardware icon go away? Tony Tucker (9565)
444091 2006-04-05 08:40:00 So, I take it, its an IDE its talking about, not a USB external hdd??

If its a USB hdd, that's normal.

If its a USB hdd, that's normal. It is not a USB external, it is a IDE internal hardrive. I only have just the one hardrive.

444093 2006-04-05 09:31:00 You sure it isn't a sATA hard drive you have? Some of them appear as removable devices as they are technically hot-swappable. Best not try this out on the drive running Windows. :p Jen (38)
444094 2006-04-05 10:11:00 It will be sata - they show up with that icon. IDE drives don't.
Technically its because sata are hot swappable. You can't get rid of it - just ignore it.

444095 2006-04-05 11:02:00 Hmm, wonder why this SATA doesnt appear as a removable disk then.

Its onboard SATA.

444096 2006-04-05 11:05:00 I remember reading about this, and I think not all drives/controllers do this. Jen (38)
444097 2006-04-05 11:14:00 Ah it looks like some Nforce 4 mobos and I would say most SATA II hdd's (this is only SATA 1), appear as removable disks.

Thats if you use the nvidia drivers. If u delete the drivers and use the MS drivers, it'll most probably still work, but without the safely remove hardware icon.

444098 2006-04-05 20:52:00 It says it is at Location 0 Primary ATA channel, and my motherboard is a Nforce one I believe. If this is normal for this icon to be there then that is allright, I just thought that there must have been something wrong thats all. Thank you for your help. Tony Tucker (9565)
