| 444401 | 2006-04-06 10:26:00 | Moving the page file on the same drive different partition does a bit of performance, use FAT32 (FAT16 would be even better) partition you'll do better because of the larger blocks, it does waste space though, but if only dedicated for paging, then it's not wasting anything and defragging is a bit better too because it's not mixed in with your operating system files and messing your files around. Depending on whether you need the page file or not, if you have enough ram, min 512MB but more realistically 1GB, you don't need a page file, though some applications like Adobe Photoshop demand that you do (that's a reason why checking for a page file and not checking for the size of their memory is poor programming, I had to set a 2MB page file (smallest you could set and had no problems with running PS)). Having everything loaded in RAM with no need of page swapping is faster. Cheers, MC |
