445168 2006-04-09 07:49:00 Hi All

Running Win XP Pro with SP2
Creative Audigy 2 Soundcard
P4 3.0GHz CPU
Gigabyte motherboard GA8IK-1100
Leadtek 6600GT VGA card
1.5GB RAM

Continually getting the following error message box appearing TWICE every time I boot up my PC:
svchost.exe -- Application error.
The instruction at :0x745f2780" referenced memory "0x00000000".
The file could not be 'read'.
Click OK to debug the programme or Cancel to terminate

I can click on cancel to make it go away (Clicking on OKAY doesn't do anything!).
However after that applications such as Outlook/IE/Word etc won't open and my Audigy 2 soundcard doesn't show up under Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices.

Its driving me nuts!!
Have searched various help forums/googled etc and tried the following solutions:
# Have checked MSConfig and put all settings back on default/orih=ginal as had some services disabled at startup
# Changed RAM timing from 3 to 2.5 in BIOS
# Switched RAM modules around on motherboard
# Reinstalled soundcard drivers

AND still no success!!!!

Any suggestions please -- tearing my hair out in frustration.

Thanks in advance

445170 2006-04-09 09:00:00 Cheers for that suggestion Trev but unfortunately I've been there and done that -- as a result of that actual web page too actually.

Thanks for the helpful suggestion though?

Anyone else with ideas/suggestions as starting to develop a really healthy dose of PC rage!

445173 2006-04-10 09:01:00 Well that didn't work out too well Gibler -- had to edit registry to get SFC scannow to work and when I rebooted afterwards, it kept giving me the BSOD part-way through boot up and restarted again so I just gave in and reformatted the damn thing! Chemical Ali (118)

Ek, what a shame. A repair install (www.michaelstevenstech.com) could have been easier. I assume you backed up your data first.
Maybe it was a windows update that had gone bad.

445175 2006-04-11 08:27:00 If you have a SP2 update CD, you could simply reinstall SP2. That should fix any corrupted files. Some say you'll need to d/l all MS security installs etc but I've never had to do that. braindead (1685)
445176 2006-09-04 09:27:00 I had the same problem . Fixed it and now its back . .

The instruction at "0x745f2780" refernced memory at "0x00000000000000" The memory could not be read .

This is now back after msi . dll crashed . . . .

Windows xp is a royal pain . Or is this MS trying to make it fall down more before the launch of vista . . . . They done something similar with office 2000 . 1 Update and nothing works as well as it used to . If you want a solution to this try open office, its free and does the job just as well .

Anywayzzz a fix for the svchost error .

I turned off (dissabled from services) a few things like server and nortons and deleted all software on boot/start up of my machine via some small tools and all was fine . Also removed IE plugs installed like yahoo and other things . I never use IE anyway always Fire Fox . Shame windows is IE . . .

Once stable and standing on its new unstable xp legs I then re-activated nortons and all was fine until now .

So I will repeat the steps .
