| 444867 | 2006-04-07 20:11:00 | This may already be a thread somewhere, and I apologise if it is. I seem to have run into an issue that at first seems to be an easy work around, but has stumped me. It seems a system I bought a little over a year ago (now out of warrenty) has had its Primary IDE controller fail. I've checked the drive - I've checked the cables. Is there a way for the system to run off of the secondary IDE controller (both mounted on the motherboard) or is there a way to use an IDE controller card to boot from. By using an installed IDE controller I've gotten the system to boot from CD and install the OS (Win XP) on the hard drive, but I can't get the system to boot from the hard drive. um. help? |

| 444868 | 2006-04-07 21:08:00 | welcome to PF1 yes you can use the the secondary ide controller to boot from just take the ribbon cable from the primary controller to the secondary controller. You may have to slave any devices that are using the secondary controller such as cd rom. You may also depending on the bios version have to change the boot sequence. but change to the secondary controller and try booting before going into the bios. good luck |

| 444869 | 2006-04-07 22:26:00 | I am running my root hdd off an IDE dual-port expansion cars . . . . then 8 other 200g hdds on a combo of 4/RAID 0+1 and 4/JBODs . I just last night added another 200g hdd on port #2 of the expansion card . Pity my psu . |
