445031 2006-04-11 10:45:00 Or you can try slingshot, not too sure about their service qualities, but their plans are good on paper for data usage....

$40+$25 (buying extra data) = 2Mbps/128, and 5Gb+30gb making 35gb...

445032 2006-04-18 04:40:00 using quicksilver now
3.5..but more like 2mbps from speed test sites
router does give downstream speed of 3.5mbps.. but not achievable obviously

their help desk..wasn' that easily reachable in the morning
but in early afternoon..didn't have to wait long

feels okay for now
obviously feels faster compared to 256kbps..but wonder how long that'll last..um..

445033 2006-04-19 11:34:00 um..just to help some people deciding..this might help..

quicksilver blocks your ports
so can't have servers and stuff
and i guess those who use bt might have some problem
since people can't connect to you
also mean can't get into your comp remotely..no more vnc..um..

but because of this.. makes it some what more secure for the users
now running sheild up tests..all ports blocked

quicksilver blocks your ports
They only did this just recently. So change the ports used for BT and you should be fine

Hey, that's not nice.. before i signed up, I called just to ask if they blocked any ports or any sort of traffic and I was told no.. and they said the only time they would limit my connection is when I exceed the data cap! I'm still waiting for the DSL on my line to be transferred to Quicksilver from Orcon.. I guess $54.95 for 30GB of 3.5M/128k connection still make up for it.. so I can't complain too much :)

How do you mean change my port? I'm an avid fan of bittorrent! I wouldn't need 30GB if I couldn't connect to BT. :(

I wonder if you can still use a FTP client :p

445038 2006-04-19 21:23:00 not sure if changing ports will work for bt
they seem to block pretty much everything
..or that's what the shield up test is telling me

before with orcon, if i open my ports on my router
then the test will show it's open
now it's just all closed and secured

well..if anyone finds a way to get around it remember to share it loh..
bt still faster to get those big files compared to http imo..

oh..forgot this..port 80 seem to be open
so..yea dunno if that does anything
maybe u can host a site?? maybe not.. havn't tried
or use your bt through it i guess
..now..my kubuntu blocks ports 1-1024.. how do i get rid of that..

Yes, Filezilla works so FTP is A-OK.

My guess is that they're only blocking common "file sharing" ports.
