| 445203 | 2006-04-09 09:53:00 | Hey People :) BIG problem, a friend suggested doing a repair install of Windows before putting anything down to hardware issues so.... I went into the repair setup of the windows CD (Booted from CD) and selected "Repair", it installed some files then rebooted and only gets through 5 mins of the counter and stops. Anyway, I am currently running on a Linux Live CD and was wondering if there is anyway I can get to the Windows partition to get any important data off and reformat (or get it to finish the repair.) :help: Thanks :) |

| 445205 | 2006-04-09 10:41:00 | Yes I would, the only problem is that I am not sure how to get into the windows NTFS partition, I can not find it under the "Places" or "Computer" folders. I should also mention I am using Ubuntu V5.04 |

I should also mention I am using Ubuntu V5.04 Could I take it you have not sent your really important stuff to CD / DVD and/or not backed up in any way. You may well have a hardware issue anyway. It may also be a registry problem. How was your hard drive or drives partitioned? Can you boot off a Win CD? |

| 445209 | 2006-04-09 11:07:00 | Well the stuff is not REALLY important but.... pretty much yes  The drive is partitioned 50gb for windows and the rest for storage, all docs, pics, music, videos and stuff are on the 'Storage' I can boot off a WinCD but only to the setup stage, ie not login |

If you important files are on a seperate partition you should be fine to format and reinstall in the windows partition. Or slave the drive to another PC, take ownership (support.microsoft.com) if you have to then backup. |
