445584 2006-04-10 21:58:00 Well, as I posted in another post somewhere here .

PC-cillin Internet security was the best . BUT, I tried it, and it did nothing but cut me off the net every 20-30 mins . So, that went in the bin!

Forget Nortons as everybody in the forum has said . Its a memory hog, and installs too much crap .

XP's firewall is OK . Just dont get anything like Trojans etc . Coz it wont stop them phoning home . Or sending info out .

I'm using Zonealarm Internet Security atm .

Not the best, but I ran no firewall at all for a week . BUT since there's 3 PC's on the network here now (used to be 2), and the other belongs to a teen who likes using P2P .

I dont fancy getting hacked by something he may download from Limewire .

445585 2006-04-10 23:08:00 Agnitum Outpost v3 (http://www.agnitum.com/) - the newer version 3.5 is apparently not quite as good.

Look'n'Stop (www.looknstop.com/) - one of the best in various leak tests. Not sure how easy it is to configure though.

445586 2006-04-10 23:09:00 I'm using sygate firewall which is still floating around if you can find it. bob_doe_nz (92)
445587 2006-04-10 23:47:00 IMHO the best firewall is grabbing an old box, and sticking IPCOP on it. www.ipcop.org.
Bit of work to set up, but once going it is a huge time saver, and can be a caching proxy, spam/virus filter, and more. I have run one for 3 years with up to 5 computers behind it, and never had ny problems. No software needing to be updated constantly, Yippee!

445589 2006-04-11 00:52:00 I use the older Kerio version 2.1.5 in conjunction with NAT. No problems, it is small, neat, it works, and if you are using Win98, it consumes very few resources compared to Zone Alarm, around 1% compared to ZAs 12%. To boot,it doesn't cause any conflicts whatsoever with Windows XP Firewall despite urban myths to the contrary :) Terry Porritt (14)
