2006-04-10 05:55:00 | The left click on my mouse has started to get a bit dodgy. Sometimes have to click 5-6 times to get it to work. I can try another one in a couple of days, I know that's the first thing to try but am wondering if this happens/has happened to others? The left click does most of the work and I guess it's an electro-mechanical switch that can wear out. Any ideas/experiences of this? TIA...........m

2006-04-10 05:59:00 | They are usually a mini microswitch. They should be good for a million or so operations. I replaced one, once, when a cheap mouse cost $49.95. Now, I wouldn't bother. | Graham L (2) | |
2006-04-10 06:03:00 | Wow. OK A million or so. Hmmm. I wonder how many computer hours that would be? Of course the average is going to be crude because of lots of varables like a person's surfing habits. Some surfing is just left click back and forward all the time. (I read somewhere that 40 % of the clicks on the intenet is the browser's back button.)

2006-04-10 06:10:00 | When desperate, I used to unsolder the switches and swap them around :) | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2006-04-10 06:15:00 | Yes I thought of swapping left to right but then I don't want a dodgy right click either. | mark c (247) | |
2006-04-10 06:20:00 | That wouild make the "right click for a menu, select the option, then left click" sequence a bit slow. Uness you're very quick with the soldering iron, Terry. ;) A few mouse specifications all say 1 million operations for the switches; one (optical) claims 1000 km travel. That's better than a push bike tyre.

2006-04-10 06:59:00 | 1 000 000 seconds is about 12 days, so if you click once a second ... | Graham L (2) | |
2006-04-10 07:05:00 | i would just go and get a new mouse but......... back in the days when i dident have a job or much $$, i had the same problem, it took about 10 minutes to swap out the left and right mircoswitches. the mouse did another year.
