446380 2006-04-15 13:57:00 If ur on a 3.5MBps connection and u go over ur data cap u get lowered back to dial up speed or 64kbps. This is a huge drop.
Why don't ISP's just lower you back to at least 512Kbps? Going from 3.5Mbps to 64Kbps is just too much of a decrease in speed.

It will take another 10 years for this mate.
ur lucky u can atleast afford 3.5 mbps

and again, it's what you signed up for, its to stop( and/or discourage) you downloading twice your cap. whilst it may have the opposite effect (lol) i think it is a good idea, it IS faster than dialup, after all.

stop whinging and pay for a higher cap!

(ihug, however, halved its caps when they increased their speed! i'll start a new thread to discuss this though)

Why don't you ask your ISP why they do this???

Not all ISPs do this, others if you go over teh cap , just charge you for the additional data you are using, so there is not decrease in speed. If the drop in speed is a problem, perhaps you should switch to another ISP who doesn't impose the data speed drop.

446386 2006-04-18 03:15:00 You have a 3.5 Mbps rate. You are not paying what that costs in international (cable) bandwidth. If your ISP was buying enough international bandwidth for everyone to be downloading at 3.5 Mbps at the same time you would be paying a lot more. If you have used up your limit, your speed is cut back. That's to stop you using more than your share of the bandwidth being shared between all the users. You can continue to download, but it will take you a lot longer. :D You've had your share of the fast stuff.

Is that too difficult to understand?

Why 512K?? Telecom sells a package that provides 256K speed with 200MB data for $30 a month and its not capped nor is its slowed to dial up speed! If you go over you will pay and your speed will be the full speed of 256k for this package.
