446349 2006-04-15 19:38:00 thanks for all the help and info people.
my "new" system is sort of up and running.
it has an intel mobo.
castlerock is the maker of this 2.2 gb orb drive that is not running right.
mobo was kind of fried in my other system - and, no I didn't buy a used Dell - I got lucky enough to find one someone else threw out!
Next problem - floppy drive not being read correctly by windows, but finally recognized in the bios.
win 98 has read it as a 1) 5.25 disk drive, and then a removable device, but not as a floppy. can't even see a power light on the darn thing.
old floppy drive that was in here was reading right, but disk got jammed in it - after first try. took it out and used another working floppy, but it won't read.
anyway, any suggestions? thanks.

hopefuilly now, most of my computer hassles will be a thing of the past . . . .

Someone is going to say it sometime so it may as well be me - it sounds like your computer hassles are only just beginning .

Sorry, couldn't help it . :p

Floppy drives and disks can be a real pain sometimes . The one that was reading, which machine have you got that in now? The Dell? And it is still not working?

Which is why I use a USB key . :badpc: :p

And removed the floppy altogether . They're nothing but a PITA!

Actually there are 3 brands commonly in use. Sony - don't see these much. Mitsumi - endless problems and failures, and Panasonic - go forever.
