446153 2006-04-19 23:50:00 The shop wouldn't have known what speed CPU you were getting.
I think, its because you brought a higher CPU, that the mobo couldn't handle.

ummm...

Interesting! I think the store must have some responsibility here. They sold me the motherboard, CPU and ram

446154 2006-04-19 23:54:00 Yer, so the shop wouldnt have known, that the mobo and the CPU didnt like each other.

Because the BIOS hadnt been updated, for the CPU.

(The shop most probably wouldnt know what revision / version of the BIOS, was on the mobo when it was purchased either).

Yer, bollocks.
If the shop can't match a MOBO with a CPU or at least tell the customer it needed a BIOS update to take the CPU they were buying, then they should be selling ice cream not computer components.
After all, that's what they are in business for.
Damn shoddy on the shop's part, very poor product knowledge.

446156 2006-04-20 07:49:00 Uh, AMD changed the standard when they released the second wave of Semprons, so there a shipload of boards are out there designated as Sempron compatible but which won't boot without a new bios.

The documentation is in place, The shop has done thr right thing, But there are obviosly still a few of these boards doing the rounds, and unless the shop powered up the board before hand (which they cant do, people buying parts would spit the dummy over opened packaging) they have no way of knowing it needs the bios flashed.

I'm sure they will be quite happy to flash the board for free.
