446369 2006-04-15 02:01:00 If ur on a 3.5MBps connection and u go over ur data cap u get lowered back to dial up speed or 64kbps. This is a huge drop. Why don't ISP's just lower you back to at least 512Kbps? Going from 3.5Mbps to 64Kbps is just too much of a decrease in speed. lance4k (4644)

Why is it, and for whom ? :) That's the deal you sign up to

446371 2006-04-15 02:43:00 It is a big drop, but they are charging you for say 10GB of data and after that they need to cut you back to a speed slow enough that you won't get through much more bandwidth than that. I don't think the concept is unreasonable (in terms of keeping people using P2P etc under control) but with data caps so low in New Zealand it is a bit of a pain. maccrazy (6741)
446372 2006-04-15 04:27:00 Simply to punish you for "blowing the cap"....

A wee while ago 512 K was still broadband (actually it was 256 K).

You could still download a lot of stuff on 512 K, in fact with 64 K you could still download a great deal....

Some ISPs let you just pay some more $$$ and gie you another 10 GB.

What, so you would just keep downloading? That wouldn't be the point would it...

446377 2006-04-15 11:51:00 Imagine if Telstraclear really does their 100Mbps plans, and they slow you down to 64kbps after you reach your cap. yzhu (9783)
