| 446659 | 2006-04-16 04:22:00 | A friend of mine asked me to take a look at her laptop because it was freezing on the windows XP splash screen. I tried booting into safe mode & that froze after loading a heap of drivers (I think the last one was mup something.) That sounded similar to a problem I had with a dodgy driver installed by alcohol for it's emulation, so I used her XP CD to get into recovery console. Recovery console kept freezing after you select what windows instilation to log into, so I thought that there might be something wrong with the hard drive. I tried to run seatools to check the hard drive (it is a toshiba, but I couldn't find their own disk diag software) but it froze as soon as it started any test - even the system memory test that shouldn't access the hard drive. Do you think the RAM has developed a fault, or is it something a bit more difficult to fix? I'm not too sure on the specs of the laptop, but it is a compaq with an athlon XP CPU. |
