446435 2006-04-15 04:38:00 I dont think it'll let you install 2k from within XP. Since XP is later than 2k.

If you want to install 2k on the same hdd.

I think 2k has to be installed first then XP.

446436 2006-04-15 05:30:00 I tried it..won't work...unless you physically remove the root drive (C) with XP now, and fdisk a different HDD and start from scratch with 2000 on that one, then move the XP back to the root (C) and I use Safe Mode to boot into 2000. Relabel the 2000 HDD as D. It's clumsy, but it works.

2000 doesn't complain, just XP does...it hates competition. 2000 always supported dual opsys/boots. It will allow you to use 2000 and 98SE on the same root drive though...it's just XP that fouls it all up. :badpc:

I might be speaking about 2000Pro though; cannot say about 2000Home, as I have no experience with the Home version.

446437 2006-04-15 05:41:00 There is no 2k Home. Only 1 version. Pro. Speedy Gonzales (78)

446439 2006-04-15 07:26:00 wat abt using partition magic? gum digger (6100)
446440 2006-04-15 22:22:00 We have 98, NT, 2K, & XP multiboot machine at work. As a rule when setting up a M$ multi boot pc always start with the oldest OS working to the newest.

Yes Partition Magic was used to set up the partions. These were all fresh installs and not exsisting installs which Partion Magic was used to resize partions to allow an installation of another OS.

A M$ multi boot enviroment can be setup but as metioned earlier it may need some fiddling with the last installed OS's bootloader, SOMETIMES. Depends a lot on want direction the wind was blowing on the day of the install :D but the rule still applies old to newest

you can do as sufer joe suggested install on a secound hard driveI used to do this with linux and use the bios to change the boot order depending on OS of chioce

The drivers for the motherboard will be on the mobo cd . Or on the mobo makers site .

You have to be careful tho, as 32 bit drivers wont install on 64 bit systems at all . (If the mobo and the OS are 64 bit) .

So, before u decide to buy hardware, check to make sure there are 64 bit drivers for it, or it wont work .

Running programs shouldnt be a prob . Whether its 32 or 64 bit . 64 bit systems would/should be backward compat with 32 bit programs .
