447198 2006-04-18 10:49:00 Hi,

my daughters (used at school and connects to the network there) laptop (running windows xp) takes forever to shutdown. After selecting "Turn off" we get a message that says 'Running logoff scripts" - and then it sits there for a fair while then closes down .... eventually.

Probably not problem but I would just like to understand why?

tks George

Lost me with this, but if this means that she is able to roam around the school and access the network there then you are right.

447201 2006-04-18 21:41:00 He's saying that all users are given access to the main server on the server itself...the rights are stored on the server, and they can log into ANY computer on the network with her current username and password. It alleviates the need for everyone to have a account on each computer they may possibly work on with a seperate set of rules created for each account. I have that set-up at my office. It does slow down the log-on log-off process, but the best thing you can do is to make sure the local user files are clean...

first, in window's explorer, click tools>folder options then click the tab that says View, and look for, andmake sure 'Show Hidden Files' is selected...this will show the space stealers

then Navigate to:

C:Documents and Settings/<user name>/Local Settings,

Empty everything you can from temperary internet files, Temperary files, History, and if you have a temp folder, delete that as well...next time she reboots, it should be much faster.
