| 446920 | 2006-04-17 08:27:00 | Grandaughter has an old computer with Win 95a, 3gb harddrive, 128mb RAM and IE v3. She has just gone on line with it and I am trying to get a free antivirus to run on it. Problem AVG wants IE v5, Avast wants IE v4. Microsoft not interested in updating v3 to v5 or 6. Can anyone suggest a free antivirus that runs on IE v3. Query, instal Firefox. | FrankS (257) | ||

OS, and there are updates available for this from Microsoft and other sites, and it will upgrade IE to version 5.5 SP2. The only AV I know that is up to date and will run with 95A is F-Prot for DOS: http://www.f-prot.com/ This would have to be run manually in DOS, it wont detect virus's whilst Windows is running. Edit: I doubt very much whether Firefox will install. |

I'd have a look for a copy of Win98 on Trademe and install that instead. |
