446892 2006-04-17 06:55:00 I was somewhat annoyed by ihug cutting my bandwidth down to 64kbps at the end of last month. i had not exceeded my cap :annoyed:

it turns out that when ihug put up its new plans (www.ihug.co.nz) to accomodate the "upgrade" to 3.5mbps they cut the onpeak caps IN HALF. (they did not change the price, however)

my 2mbps plan was/is fine, i came close to but did not exceed my 2gb onpeak + 2gb offpeak plan. my distance from an exchange means i have never managed more than 1.6mbps (not that it matters, that's more than enough:)), so upgrade in speed wins me nothing, really.

while i managed to keep my current plan without "upgrading", i wonder how many people were conned into more speed to download less?

So, please tell me: What sort of an "upgrade" is this? more speed for less data?! and have any other ISP's done the same?

446893 2006-04-17 07:42:00 Yeah it would've cost $10 more for me to keep the same plan but at 3.5 Mb/s

So I instead when with the next plan down and saved $10 at the cost of 10 GB on-peak.

Still better than Xtra though.....(don't forget that they don't count uploads - which can be huge on bittorrent for example).

have you seen these people (www.xnet.co.nz)? they dont count national stuff, like pcworld and trademe

446896 2006-04-17 07:53:00 While I am disappointed in the reduced cap (mine will go from 40+40 to 20+40) I like the increase in the upload speed. 2MB as a download speed was fine but 128Kb upload is just plain pathetic and slows everything down as packets cant get out fast when uploading and surfing at the same time.

I get close to 40GB per month peak and about 6GB offpeak. I guess I will just move my PC into another room and let it do all my downloading during the off-peak and so use up more of the 40GB offpeak.

Oh and you are wrong, The price has gone up as well for the same plans by $10.

Well it aint all bad as IHug dont count upstream data as most ISP's do so that counts in a big way. Also you can keep your exact plan as it is with no change at all. They dont automatically upgrade you. You have to apply yourself so you should still be on the same plan you where with the same limits as before.

446899 2006-04-18 05:49:00 I haven't downloaded more than two gigs a month over the past two years so I'm not particularly interested in what their cap is.
Speed is all that concerns me.
So I'm more than happy with what they give me.

yes, but they cut me back to 64kbps for no reason while everyone was getting "upgraded". the point is, it isnt really an "upgrade"
