| 447566 | 2006-04-19 09:12:00 | Hi all Bought an upgrade box from Firstin, after 4 days it suddenly shut down. Now at startup it goes until OS starts loading, then the PS shuts down. Unplugging the power and waiting for a red LED on the mobo to extinguish will allow powerup again. I have replaced all addons with working test units (disk, RAM, graphics card), still the same. Ran memtest86, no problems. Checked CPU temp in bios, no problems there. Only bit not replaced is the PS. The problem seems to be as soon as disk I/O takes place, it fails as soon as hitting the disk writing when trying to install an OS, Win XP or Linux, same problem. What could be the problem, is it CPU or mobo related? No help or response at all from Firstin, they ignored all emails and phone messages to date. So buyers beware... |

| 447570 | 2006-04-20 08:30:00 | Tried another higher wattage supply, it doesn't shut off now, but still no disk I/O. The disk (and working test unit) makes a "pink" sound, but that is how far it gets, unable to boot or fdisk the disk. Most times the system then reboots, but at times it just hangs at "detecting disk drives" during the bootstrap. The HDD make/size is detected OK by the BIOS though. I would want to blame the mobo, but it boots up fine from the cdrom drive, so I/O seems to be OK. Tried the cdrom cable on the HDD, same problem as above. This one have me stumped... |
