447866 2006-04-20 03:39:00 What is a good NZ gentoo mirror that has all the packages as well as the install CDs?

I decided I waqnt to learn Gentoo & I downloaded the 1.4 CDs from Citylink (No idea if that is the latest version or not) & the install process doesn't look friendly from the guides I've looked at.

I was expecting to boot into a nice graphical installer, but instead it boots you into a very nice looking command line & you have to set up everything yourself

The latest release is 2006.0 which apparently has the GUI installer

447869 2006-04-21 02:22:00 Gentoo sure did take "minimal" to heart - a 49mb install CD :illogical . What can they fit in just 49mb? Greven (91)
447870 2006-04-21 03:24:00 Enough to get your base files onto the net to download the rest.
I would recommend the universal cd if you don't want to be downloading a heap of files (I don't think theres an NZ mirror for those files either, I think the closest is Australia).

447871 2006-04-21 06:38:00 I downloaded the 2006 minimal CD & it still doesn't give me a graphical installer. From reading the instilation docs on gentoo.org, it looks like 2006 is supposed to boot into the graphical installer by default, so I have no idea whats going on. Greven (91)
447872 2006-04-21 06:58:00 Did you read my previous post?

The minimal cd has only enough to get you online to download the rest. Obviously that doesn't include the gui installer.

The gui installer is on the universal cd
