I have a Dial Up Adapter and a TCP Dial Up Adapter under Control Panel/Network/Configuration.
The problem is only intermittent.
Do you think I need to clean my Registry?
My Microsoft Updates are up to date
I have extensively searched Microsoft Knowledge Base but couldn't find my exact error message.

I'd forgotten about IE repair tool. That is an excellent thing to try first of all.

If you still have problems uninstall the Dial Up Adapter. I think the TCP/IP binding to the adapter will disappear. If you have an ethernet card, you should see something like TCP/IP -> ...ethernet NIC.

You could also run System File Checker to see if a system file has become corrupted as well as extracting a copy of afvxd.vxd

448371 2006-04-23 07:11:00 Many thanks to all. I have tried the IE Repair Tool and so far things are running much more smoothly. (I think it was all the blog visiting I've been doing lately - the problem seemed to start after that).
Cheers

448372 2006-04-25 07:15:00 Have also uninstalled Dial Up Networking as I still had problems, so thanks for that tip too. It has certainly speeded up surfing. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this has solved the problem.
The last error message I received was 0028: C14ECAFE in VXD MSTCP(01) 0000509E so perhaps the DUN was the problem.
Since uninstalling that I now get a message from Nortons saying it was unable to scan my emails. But the thing is a crock anyway and Nortons have stopped supporting my version (only a few years old) so stuff them - I will be changing to another virus checker when Nortons expires next month. I'll be looking at a free one like AVG. Has anyone had any problems with AVG?
