448122 2006-04-21 11:42:00 So what are the benefits of bluetooth as opposed to infrared?

Infrared is line of site only, and slow, its pretty crappy. With my phone a good 50 percent of the time its impossible to make the connection, and dead slow when you do get it cranking. Then I bump the phone and it loses contact...

Did I mention it was slow.

Data-cable transer is far faster and reliable.

Haven't tried bluetooth, dont have it, dont need it, I have a data cable.....

448124 2006-04-21 13:37:00 Hmmmm . . . . . . . . . . . . . so I've been taken advantage of??? Hard to believe really . :nerd:

I've emailed the guy so I'll see what happens but at $12 I'm not inclined to get too excited .

Maybe I'll try Bluetooth .

I suppose I could just sit down for an hour or so and painfully punch in all of my contacts - but damn it all, I want to do it on my lappie . : :annoyed:

448125 2006-04-21 22:10:00 You can get a usb bluetooth device for less than $50, I got one from ascent and its the best buy I havemade in a while. Not having to remember to plug in and synchronise is great Amicus 400 (10254)

Sue them Winston. I can recommend a good lawyer if you need one.

448127 2006-04-22 06:23:00 Have you got the latest version of the Nokia office suite and the drivers. When I first connect my phone to the laptop it comes up with a message on the phone about a USB connection which I 'dont' accept and then it connects to the Suite.

When I first set it up it was a fairly long process with a lot of drivers being offered and accepted.

448128 2006-04-22 08:32:00 Interestingly Erger, the Nokia Suite which came with the faulty cable appears to be 2 versions newer than the one with the phone . So I've got the right software .

I'll play around and see what happens .

GF - do you think the lawyer would be interested in pro bono work? In the public interest of course . ;)

448129 2006-04-22 12:13:00 Use a card reader instead

I have issues with mobiles in the past with data cables.I had the same problems like yours

No way of fixing it.Use a card reader.

The new Nokia mobiles doesnt have the data cable problems at all.

448130 2006-07-15 06:12:00 have been reading your thread guys and i regret to tell you we are in good company. the problem is quite common and i suspect an incompatabilty between nokia PCSuite and MATURE winXP instalations. i have a 6680. the pcsuite on disc would not instal. latest version 6.8.22 did. still did not recognise a connection.
updated connection version to 159. works better but phone won't recognise suite. go to bluetooth same all over again.
now get serious. have installed the suite on other computers - notably fresh or near fresh installations (xp sp2) and you guesssed it works fine. THEN i find out from several other people including the guru at the local micro assembler that the problem is not uncommon on mature installations. IE incompatability. he has same prob and can't figure it out.
BUT what is the incompatability? does anyone know? Nokia does not. if you want to test this all out. instal a new fresh win xp SP 2 and before any new software goes in install pc suite.
first to let us all know what upsets the nokia apple cart gets the prize.
