448111 2006-04-21 01:26:00 So I'm clever . I buy a USB cable off a Trademe trader for my lovely new cellphone . About a quarter of the cost of the proper Nokia cable . Install the drivers, and Nokia Software suite and???

"Connection not recognised"

Buggar . :groan:

So I've got a busy day and this is really irritating me . And I'm sure the seller will give me a refund but isn't there likely to be a simple answer?

Help please .

Cheers
Winston

448112 2006-04-21 01:33:00 I take it the driver and software have been installed?

It looks like u need the DKU-5 cable not DKU-2. According to the Nokia site.

Dont know if theres a diff or not.

Thanks Speedy.

448114 2006-04-21 04:06:00 Winston001, Dont buy a datacable. either use a card reader or use a bluetooth.
Data cables are pain the ass.

infrared works ok but datacable works better when you sitting on a chair with the phone beside you - or copying 100 odd mp3's onto the phone.

George

sadly dont have bluetoooth on the laptop

448116 2006-04-21 05:39:00 But my laptop doesn't have bluetooth. Thanks for the thought though. It doesn't have infrared either although I suppose I can buy a plug-in? Winston001 (3612)
448117 2006-04-21 05:44:00 If you have USB. Yup

448118 2006-04-21 11:12:00 So what are the benefits of bluetooth as opposed to infrared? Winston001 (3612)
448119 2006-04-21 11:22:00 Pass, most probably the distance / range it can transmit.

Have a read (en.wikipedia.org) and here (en.wikipedia.org)

Looks like the DKU-2 is correct according to that link

There is a known issue with "knockoff cables" (non Nokia original) using a non standard chipset that means they do not always work correctly .

Of course from Trademe it must be genuine . . . .
