448015 2006-04-20 22:24:00 My wife Lyn has bought our daughter an Acer Travelmate Laptop for use at Polytech.

Daughter wants to know how to clean the plasma screen and more important the correct way to open the unit, as it is very rigid and she thinks she may distort the screen.

Thanks for any suggestions.

448016 2006-04-20 22:35:00 Plasma screen?

What model of laptop is it, as they only ever come with an LCD screen...

Assuming LCD, a damp (NOT wet) cloth is fine. I use 50% white vinegar and water, avoid window cleaning solutions with ammonia.

I find annual cleaning is usually all it needs, the main thing to avoid is getting the screen too moist where water dribbles down into the electronics at the base.

As for opening, I would recommend equal pressure on both corners. May mean she needs 3 hands, so failing that centrally at the top. Just not one corner.

It's an older model 529ATX machine, ex lease and fully serviced.

The 2 girls thought a bit of CRC on the hinges, but I said no-way they are meant to be rigid to stop them "flopping over"!.

Thanks again for advice.

448018 2006-04-20 23:37:00 You might find CRC might eat the surrounding plastic as well Myth (110)
448019 2006-04-20 23:55:00 Thanks Tazz, CRC sure makes things work, never had much time for plastic though, but where would we be without it, "bakelite".
