447886 2006-04-20 04:09:00 i need help, the other night we had a network going with a crossover cable, and no internet, and we had file sharing and multi player games working. turned the computers off for the night, then the next day we started them up and the file sharing and multi player games would not work. however the connection said it was connected. we tried specifiying the I.P address, but when we entered a game it had a different I.P address than what we specified. then when we tried changing the I.P address to the same one that was in the game, it said it was already in use on the network, and we could not get it working!!! we are confused, can you help us? hitman23 (10251)
447887 2006-04-20 04:11:00 Can you ping each other? Renmoo (66)
447888 2006-04-20 04:14:00 probably not, we havent got the computers together anymore unfortunately, but i probably wouldnt ping seeing as the computers woud not find eachothers I.P addresses in the game. also the LAN for a game called Americas Army would not work hitman23 (10251)
447889 2006-04-20 10:14:00 Try this: If you get the chance of connecting the two computers again, try disabling the firewall of both computers and see if the connection works or not. Of course, it is recommended that this is done without the Internet being connected.

Cheers :)

447890 2006-04-21 00:48:00 You are manually entering the IP addresses, not "obtain an IP address automatically"?

If all its DHCP discover packets go unanswered, the OS selects the DHCP not found address which is 169.xxx

447891 2006-04-21 03:32:00 yes, we manually enter the i.p address, atleast we tried. we did get it going with "obtain IP address automatically" and it said the connection had limited or no connectivity, however we could still file share and play games. but it just wont work anymore.

How do we make it so it will answer the DHCP discover packets??
thanx
