448594 2006-04-22 21:47:00 My system is a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor 2.0Ghz, with 1GB RAM.

I recently purchase a GeXCube ATI Raedon 9600XT 256mb card. I have installed it but when I attempt to run games such as HL2 or MS Flight Sim the computer either crashes or the monitor 'switches' off (e.g. 'check signal cable ' or 'out of freq range').

I was previously running a GeForce MX440 64Mb card. I uninstalled the drivers for this card beforce inserting the new ATI card and installing new drivers. (I've installed the latest drivers). I am running Windows XP Home (all latest updates installed).

What am I doing wrong. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Please help...

See if there are any problems with
DirectX.

Also have you tried reinstalling the games (if you change video cards some of them don't redetect and so the settings they use could be wrong for your new card).

Update motherboard drivers too..

448596 2006-04-22 23:10:00 Out of Frequency range means you are trying to run the game in a resolution too high for your monitor to handle. Thats not anything to do with which card you are using.

As for the crashing - try turning the game settings down and see if it still does it.
A 9600 is an improvement on what you had before but it is still not exactly a high spec graphics card.

448597 2006-04-23 22:46:00 Thanks for the tips.

After doing a bit more research I have solved the problem. It appears that with the ATI drivers (CATALYST Control Center), you need to click on the SMARTGART tab and switch the "AGP Read" control to 'off'. This I did this and everything seems to be working ok now. I wouldn't have the foggiest idea what switching the AGP read to off does, but at least it's now working.

Thanks.
