448848 2006-04-27 23:54:00 I have an early model HP PSC 750, which I "upgraded" for a Brother MFC, a top of the line one with paper feeder, card slots, network card etc.

BIG mistake, I tossed it after a few months. Compared to my HP, the print quality was very poor unless "fine mode" was used which was slow as.

The ink use was horrible, with cleaning cycles as above. If it was used daily it's probably OK, but it could go through a full ink cartridge without doing anything productive.

Put the HP back in and its a real pleasure to use, print quality is superb. Considering upgrading to a new HP MFC, as the PSC750 does not have a fax.

The Brother was a very good fax machine, but thats about the limit. Its not even suited as my stand-alone fax though, as the incoming fax frequency is so low it would usually mean it had no ink left to print them....

448849 2006-04-29 14:07:00 Hi guys, I purchased an Epsom RX530- over my budget, but widely recommended, and I figure it will do me proud.

Thanks for your input everybody!

Not sure what happened to your printer, but I've had a 210c for nearly 2 years - on 24/7 & I've never changed any cartridges yet. I'ts used for copying & faxing, but still got plenty of ink.

448851 2006-04-30 04:54:00 I have the HP Photosmart 2575. Works flawlessly. Scanned photos look just as good as the originals. No problems so far, had it since the beginning of the year basically. Got ethernet for networking, so for me its connected to a wireless router. I havn't tried scanning handwriting and converting it though, but it does come with software for doing that.
Third HP printer since 1994. Had an Epson (C-41 or something cheap, came with PC Company computer a few years back), print quality for black text was crap compared to older HP Deskjet 930c.

Edit: The 2575 can be had for around $250 if you look on Pricespy

Mine was the MFC 3820CN
SOunds like they may have overcome the issue but I won't be giving them a second chance.

The latest PC User mag has a review of ink costs on photo grade printers.
Overall HP came out best, it makes an interesting read.
