Or anyone else on Orcon haveing trouble elsewhere, last night was the worst it has been. Hmmm, Yeah... my problem has been ongoing like for months and months. Silly me thought it must be me or at least my machine. I can understand international sites being a tad slower... but surely anything local should be at a reasonable speed. It is not like I'm gaming or watching Vids online. I've got two mobile computers so I'll do some testing elsewhere. Still haven't had a reply from my ticket and two emails. Seems to be latency or lost packets. The line is fine cause an Xtra account worked perfect on it. Both machines say they are connected at around 50000bps... certainly not getting that. Grrr I'll bite the bullet and call tonight, once I feel that I am armed with enough information... I hate the... i'm reading from a manual routine that you get from some help desk peeps. I've lost count of the number of times in the past that I had to say... "But putting a short cut to... on my desktop is not going to fix my problem." or renaming the shortcut... that was always a good one. 30 minutes later... I'm going to have to bump you up to the next support level... they'll call you (in a couple of days if you are lucky). Anyway enough of the sob story. :confused: |

Went to work, plugged in my PowerBook. dailed Orcon. 4 minutes to get Google News loaded... even then I gave up as some pics and the last few articles did not come up. www.stuff.co.nz Gave up after 4 minutes (got nothing). pcworld.co.nz gave up after 4 minutes loaded maybe 3/4 of the site Did the test at 2pm ish on Anzac day... not sure how this reflects. Seemed marginally quicker on some... normally slow on others. Still not good enough. I'll test a friends house next. Grrr |

| 448791 | 2006-04-25 09:43:00 | Ok, so I tested Orcon at work and it was still nasty. Called my brother in Auckland, cause the one in Napier was sick and too wosy to be helpful. Auck bro... tested my Orcon and he said it was all good... good speed... I borrowed his Xtra user settings... using them right now and O my God I can actually tab browse and get into Google news in less than 5 - 10 minutes. Even orcons site and pages come up at lightning speed. Time to call Orcon and ask what gives. My line is not the problem. My account is not the problem. Anyone want to take odds on me being talked through changing my dail up short cut name as part of the fix? Or was that just Xtra??? Hmmm |

| 448792 | 2006-04-25 10:44:00 | Good to see you have tried a few things as well, I tried with 2 Laptops (Low end models) 1 with a xtra connection which was slow but comp low on Ram. Seem one one else is having prob's,it could be a Tauranga thing. I will ring them in the morning as well. Normally midweek is alright,going off at night's as well as weekend's and also today. |

| 448797 | 2006-04-26 01:44:00 | I have an orcon dialup account and a paradise dial up account.Im staying at my friend's place at the moment and her connection at night is kinda slow sometimes web page doesn't load but if i switch to my own orcon or paradise account.Everything seems fine.Page loads quite quick.I think paradise dialup is a bit faster | Ninjabear (2948) | ||
