448416 2006-04-22 05:35:00 i have an xtra DSL 502T router/modem. I am using a USB
connection.I have 98SE. I can intall the DSL 502T just fine, but when I shutdown my PC(turn power off at wall) and turn it on the next day the Network adapater has disappeared.I can start and shut down the computer about 5times until it disappears.
To get around this problem I have to unplug the DSL 502T usb plug, run the DSL 502T setup file to uninstall the usb driver, then run the setup file AGAIN to install the usb driver again, then reboot my pc, then Plug in the DSL 502T usb plug into the pc and my pc detects it again and adds it to the Network adapters.
I don't have to configure the DSL 502T settings again, just install the USB driver again.I have a dial-up modem installed on my pc and I've
disabled it just in case it was interfering, but the problem still happens.I have 2 USB 1.1 ports and they work fine(i use a scanner and digital camera with
the usb ports with NO problem).
I am using the most UP TO DATE drivers that came on the CD which is the SAME version available for download from the manufacturers website and the manufacturer said they have had no issues with the modem drivers currently available. My usb host controller is:

Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Host Controller
Usb root hub

Network adapter:
D-LINK USB remote NDIS Network device

Is there something wrong with my PC's usb ports or the DSL 502T modem? (remember that my usb scanner and digital camera work fine on BOTH usb ports)

If it is a problem with the broadband modem, will xtra send me a new one then will I just send the old one back to them? I don't have to send the modem to australia do it because that's where the manufacturer is based.
If its a problem with my usb ports will getting a PCI usb card solve the issue?

448417 2006-04-22 05:50:00 USB isnt really that good for ADSL modems / broadband.

Unless the modem can be connected to a system, via ethernet.

448418 2006-04-22 07:33:00 I think your ADSL Modem/Router is faulty. How long did you have it for? I got faulty products from D-Link as well even an unopen Box of D-Link DSL-504T. Get the D-Link to sort this problem out. Phone for D-Link techinical support. I hope this helps.:)
In the forum people can't help you much because they're not hardware technician and from a specific company.
I was quite disapointed with D-Link because they didn't have product checked before selling them on the market. At least they replace the whole new ADSL Router Modem for me.:) That makes the customer happy about it.

errrrrr...........if you mean THIS forum theres actually a LOT of qualified techs here who also have many YEARS of experience behind them.....

in the case of this issue I'd ask the poster in #1.......does your pc lose the settings for any other usb devices ?......

448420 2006-04-22 08:00:00 Sorry, I didn't know that. But product faulty is complicated a really complicated thing. Like I post a topic earlier why my networking file transfer is so slow but no one can help me at all, except I phone up D-Link for help and they said they going to replace a new one for me. 448421 2006-04-23 01:11:00 Thank you. So what information would D-link technical support need from me if they needed to replace my modem as I've got it through xtra?
Did you ring d-link new zealand or australia and you don't have to pay postage for the replacement modem do u and if you have to send the faulty modem back do they provide you with a box to send it back in?
