1390000 2014-12-12 00:18:00 Pity. But it has over the past few months just become a soccer and snow sports channel. Some of the stuff they were showing this time last year never happened this year. I suspect that Sky has outbid them on them.. paulw (1826)
1390001 2014-12-12 06:06:00 Sad, but:

Sommet delivered a varied list of sports in its brief time on air.

These included AFL, NFL, European and South American football, Caribbean Premier League cricket, women's golf, MotoGP, tennis, snooker, bullriding, volleyball, triathlon and a variety of watersports.

But most of these are really not main stream - as far as Kiwis are concerned. And the major events were not covered by Sommet.

It was a difficult market for them to break into, a big ask to establish a niche against the major players with the deep pockets. Rendered even more difficult by the availability of delayed coverage (or on demand) by major broadcasters on the Net.

Sorry to see Sommet go, but thanks for trying.

:thanks

1390002 2014-12-12 18:09:00 Look at what Sky did to push them out in the past year Sky went from 4 Sky sports channel to 7 or 8 plus they added ESPN2 which also covers a lot of the B and C grade stuff that Sommet would get on the cheap. Also the Freeview platform had huge fees attached. The RNZ site refers to Freeview "administration fee's" of $100000 then $150000 in their 2nd year and $200000 in their 3rd. That's just crazy. I bet TVNZ isn't paying $200000 per channel in administraion fee's to be on Freeview.. apsattv (7406)
