| 1389788 | 2014-12-09 01:27:00 | What did we used to do before the advent of bottled water? Everywhere you look there are many with their obligatory water bottle. Why? Why do they need to take water wherever they go? I have no such need and cannot understand why many people feel the need to have a water bottle with them at all times. Besides, why would anyone pay for water when you can get it out of the tap? It's crazy. But there are firms that are making millions out of selling bottled water and their advertising tells you just how great their pure water is. Personally I can't understand what's so great about pure water. I could make sense out of it if they added some whiskey or gin to it, but pure water? How unimaginative are boring. |

In point of fact you can get just as good water for close to free from your kitchen tap. Most of the water sold in shops does come from the producers town supply. I read a report some time ago of testing carried out on some of the prestige imported bottled water which found that it was quite inferior to that which comes from your tap. | CliveM (6007) | ||

You won't catch me lugging one around with me as a rule though, maybe if I go for a long walk or something. It seems almost like a water bottle is some kind of fashion accessory to go with all the special exercise gear people feel the need to wear as well. As a kid both school and the local park had water fountains to drink from and that did the trick just fine, you don't see them around so much anymore. I think the whole "keep hydrated" phrase sounds stupid too, why not just say drink plenty of water. |

| 1389791 | 2014-12-09 02:44:00 | its crazy. leave the sugar and taste out, and charge more for it. tho part of it is city supply just tastes horrible. i refill my water bottle at work which is on tank supply cause my town supply is down right horrible. btw my water bottle is for work, we sweat a LOT and have to drink a lot as dehydration is a MAJOR problem. i don't have a water bottle for any other time. when i can afford it, i will fit a filtering system or set up a tank and collect the water off the roof. parks probably don't have fountains etc any more due to maintenance issues. a lot of town supplies are getting old, due for replacement (my town has just been done) and others are pushed to the limits. years ago, in one of the local towns, water tanks where banned in town for health reasons. few years later they reversed it and started getting people to put tanks in because the town supply couldn't keep up. |

Well I was checking the mail, when this immaculately attired senior citizen exchanged pleasantries with me, but blow me down if he wasnt carrying one of those water bottles with a tit on it and he was off to the funeral. Talk about looking the complete twit. :groan: |

I have one of those plastic water bottles as well. I fill it up at home . I wouldnt assume everyone with plastic bottled water is buying water. |

| 1389794 | 2014-12-09 04:23:00 | I reckon its the biggest crime of the planet drinking bottled water when tap water is available. Imagine the amount of oil which is needed to distribute bottled water which is heavy. | prefect (6291) | ||

I heard that too, but this www.sylvansource.com would seem to refute it rather well |

Imagine the amount of oil which is needed to distribute bottled water which is heavy. absolutely. i think its something like 1/3 of a water bottle is the amount of oil it requires. theres a doco on one of the worlds biggest water companies. they get around the problem of transporting water around the world by "making it" locally. basically they clean/distill/etc the water, than add back in the minerals etc to make up the taste. that way it tastes the same no matter where you buy it. |
