1389554 2014-12-04 21:42:00 A new generation of fixed speed cameras arrives in Auckland tomorrow (Thursday 4 December), with two new cameras going live in Totara Park.

The cameras, which use dual radars and digital technology, are in Mill Road and Murphy’s Road.

A third camera is scheduled to go live on 12 December at an existing site on Great South Road, Otahuhu. Infrastructure at two other sites, Candia Road in Henderson’s Valley and Great North Road in Kelston, is to be upgraded before the cameras go live.

1389556 2014-12-04 22:01:00 There were two put in recently over here as well, one at the bottom of the hill, lower Hutt Side beside the Old Griffins building, And one at the top of the Wainui Hill -- That one didn't last long - After it went active, it was around 3 weeks before it looked like it was damaged, then the following day its been half dismantled by who ever put them up.

Its actually quite funny, everyone knows its there, people slow down for the few mtrs to below 80 where the cam works then speed back up again to the speed limit.

Don't know if its been vandalised or what, but hasn't been there for just over a week now ?

1389557 2014-12-04 22:43:00 Let the revenue gathering begin for a day or two before everyone know it's there. I see the tax collectors out there patrolling the Auckland city streets this week no doubt looking for easy pickings.. paulw (1826)

Just to make sure it's not detectable, dangle the car keys out the window and/or a small sheet of aluminium foil as you drive past ...

Alternatively you could coat the car in the plumber's tape that has aluminium on one side and bitumen adhesive on the other.

Probably most of our younger members would not have heard of this particular urban myth, circa 1970s. Another from the same era was filling soft drink bottles with water and leaving them on the lawn. Allegedly this stopped the local pooches wanting to leave their visiting cards or to irrigate the lawn ...

1389562 2014-12-08 04:17:00 The money suckers are going overboard.

Theres ANOTHER speed cam going in on the Wainui hill. That will make FOUR cameras in 4.2KM distance , I just measured it Via my speedo -- money gathering -- ya think. ( next time out driving look how far 4.2 K actually is, not far)

The place its going in, Wainui side at the bottom of the hill. I've lived in Wainui for over 20 years, and over that time theres been maybe 1 or 2 crashes in the area, and that's usually caused by people changing lanes without looking, nothing to do with speed. The major crashes are dickheads further up the hill not able to stay on the road in the 80K areas.

Heard over the weekend the one at the top of the hill ( still out of action) has been shot at twice with a shotgun, painted once and the latest attacked with an angle grinder, each time put out of action ( did see the smaller of the two hanging down by its wires, swinging in the breeze before it was removed the following day). The people doing it obviously don't care about damaging property, whoever they are I suspect will not get tired before the people replacing them do -- they need cams on the cameras to spot who's doing it.

My experience since living over here is that the 80 kph isnt a speed limit more of a target or minimum speed. Not a good feeling being overtaken by a ute towing a trailer going down the Hutt side, then cutting in fron to take the Seaview exit
