| 1389471 | 2014-12-04 02:40:00 | www.stuff.co.nz If you get a vote on it which we didn't based on the Auckland experience I hope you will all reject it out of hand otherwize it will be Rome (aka Wellington City) extracting taxes from the conquered lands (the old council regions) to build even bigger and better temples for themselves.. |

How on earth thinking people can imagine Wairarapa could be part of a Wellington 'super city' beggars belief. People in Upper and Lower Hutt have made plain their opposition, though there are those 'habitual letter writers' who keep plugging the idea. The main drive for amalgamation seems to come from some 'power mad' Wellingtonians, who view the rest of the region as a cash cow for Wellington's profligate spending :) |

They are so busy with evasions and meaningless platitudes they actually produce nothing but glossy brochures and grandiose pieces of frippery, and their absolute incompetence is almost invisible. Auckland has a very adept crew of these people, a couple of thousand of them could be shipped south in stock trucks at a moment's notice. It would have absolutely no effect on the services of either city. If they took 12 or 15 thousand consultants with them, it would be all to the good. Bit tough on the ratepayers, but that is all part of the joy of modern political reality. |

Well that didn't really happen in Auckland. In fact regions like Franklin, their rates went down. Small towns pay high rates you know, the bigger the numbers, the lower the rates overall. |

Berm mowing....that's everywhere. Not sure the train set is a result of Supercity though.....that's just Lens pet project. In all nothing drastic happened. I doubt it will benefit Wellington especially, but the smaller places - yes It should, |

Actually, before amalgamation NS was one of the more in debt councils in the region. And we had bugger all infrastructure to show for it .NS were great at wasting money & overspending. In fact, NS would often refuse to help the old AKCouncil pay for projects that NS would then happily use . So its actually the other side paying our debts. |
