As much as I know you love them, trains are a mode of transport (commuter) that are usable where they already exist - but still don't pay for themselves - but they are an idea past their time otherwise. They are horrendously expensive to provide routes through existing property owners' back yards, expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and run and will ALWAYS need to be subsidised by the long-suffering rate/tax payer. |

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but rail transport is surging overseas. It's only the NZ Gov Luddites that think that cards and trunks are a better alternative.. Plus I don't think that there is any public transport anywhere in the world that runs at a profit. It it was to the fares would be so high that no one could afford to use it.. |
