1390094 2014-12-13 03:37:00 It seems to me that Home detention is just a holiday!
To start with, you have to have a home, so because you can't go to work to pay for the rent/mortgage, we the Taxpayers do it for him. He would also have to be supplied with all his food, power, water, escorted trips to the Doctor etc, the list goes on!

Reminds me of the guy who threw a brick at a jewelers shop window so he could get false teeth. He did about 6 months and came out with a new set of false teeth.

If I had my way people would only be allowed a prison sentence once. If they re-offended they would have one appeal, and if that was not successful, would be declared surplus to requirements and terminated.

1390095 2014-12-13 04:40:00 in some cases their home is their work, so nothing changes ! tweak'e (69)
1390096 2014-12-13 06:59:00 I wonder how many abusers are sentenced to home detention in the same home as their victims? Wonderful for the victim, no? Blue Druid (4480)

Very, very, very few I would imagine. I'd hope none.

But I presume home detention is cheaper to the crown than a prison sentence, so for some crime it makes sense.

1390099 2014-12-14 22:09:00 Those on home detention, do they automatically just get the dole, as they cant leave the house to go to work ??

I dont understand how sitting at home for 6 months could ever be seen as any sort of punishment . Id see it as a holiday.
Wouldnt it be better to force then into some sort of work scheme , 6 days a week

1390100 2014-12-14 22:32:00 Some do get a benefit. Did a job for someone last year who was wearing the ankle thing, said they'd pay me the following week when they "got paid". And they did. Renegade (16270)

I know someone who had a visit to assess if their place was suitable for e-bail. Apparently the parents place is not.
They apparently check out not only who lives there but regular visitors, the house as well and there are regular unannounced checks at random.

ON the other hand, look at all the stuff you see in the news all the time, and like I said, that hacker showing a method of disabling it....so I think it's a joke.
But as the prisons let people out 4 days a week, so they only do 3 day weeks, let them run businesses and all sorts, well I can see why some couldn't care less about jail.....that's a holiday too.

1390103 2014-12-16 19:25:00 I suspect the most powerful home detention is having a kid, although that doesn't seem to work on those most likely to have the court-ordered version. R2x1 (4628)
