| 449030 | 2006-04-24 07:51:00 | This is to do with when I was "upgraded" to 3.5Mbps and my resulting rubbish 256k speeds I now get. Finally got called back. The network team are going to be ringing customers with this problem in the next 10 days - or so. I bet they will only ring Xtra customers, and probably only those who have complained. However. They haven't as yet admitted what the problem is, just that when I am called it will be to say if I can or not get 3.5Mbps. (Pretty obvious I can't) And then, discussions will be done to see what they will do. Most likely put me back to the 2Mbps I had which was fine. However and I don't know about this yet.... Their current 2Mbps plan as a 1Gb data limit. I pointed out I previously had a working 2Mbps/10Gb and thats what I would expect or there is no point in remaining with them. I mentioned certain other ISPs are able to still offer this exact plan and at a cheaper price. The guy I was dealing with agreed but my negotiations will have to be with the 3rd level guys that ring me. So..............we will see.......... |

I was able to keep the old plan (moving is really a new connection), so I am guessing you can twist there arm or another similar provider. As for Telecom, I am ******* pissed, I just moved house. TC refused a pre- reuest to have my bitstream (Ihug) connected the same day as my TC phone line. They only accpet a request AFTER the phone line goes live and I may have to wait 15 days. Screw you Telecom, rott in hell and shove your miliion dollar TV adds up your ASS!!!, should have gone Telstra. hmm now to hit "submit reply" and wait 10 minutes for my dialup connection to post this. |

The saddest thing is that if I select "get xtra products" instead of "get support" I would get through straight away. Bastards |

"They haven't as yet admitted what the problem is," probably means that they haven't a clue. If you were getting sufficient line speed to give 2M you should still get 2M even if you can't get the line speed to support 3.5M. The speed can be controlled at more than one point and there's more than one bottleneck. Maybe they are still waiting for the contractor to report back. |

| 449035 | 2006-04-24 11:26:00 | I recently decided to upgrade from the Telecom Go Plan to the Explorar Plan. I did it on-line and was informed that I would be upgraded within 2 days and should check my usage plan to see that I had been upgraded, also that if there were any speed issues I should contact Telecom. Well, for a start surely they should tell me when the upgrade had occurred Still, after checking a couple of days later it showed I was now on 2 Gig down load and 5 Gig data cap. But, when upgrading online I was told I would be on 3.5 Gig download. On ringing Telecom I was told that it was impossible for me to ever exceed a speed of 2 Gig download as I was on a Conklin connection. I always knew that my local box, from which I am approx 1.2 km distant, had a digital (fibre optic) connection to my exchange and thence a connection to a DSLAM (the Conklin) and thence by copper wire to my home. However, I was told that the Conklins were not a DSLAM as such but rather an extension of a DSLAM to the local box. Hence they could never exceed @ Gig download. Is there some Telecom or ex-Telecom or IT guru who can tell me if this is true? If it is then it must follow that most local xes will never exceed 2 Gig download and that ADSL2 is an impossibility. I will write to the Commerce Commission and the Minister if true as it will once again show that Telecom tells untruths albeit that the CEO seems to increasingly earn more for providing less to its captive audiance. |

Turn those Gig into Megs :-) There's a "product informer" on this . telecom . co . nz/binarys/tw_2005_09_19 . pdf" target="_blank">www . telecom . co . nz My take on these mini DSLAMS is that they are a patch-up of the existing network and not a long term solution . Supposedly Alcatel is the network providing partner, so expect Alcatel solutions . |

| 449037 | 2006-04-24 11:53:00 | maybe they should post a warning when upgrading your plan to the new 3.5. Telcom wishes to advise you that although we are advertising and spending millions of dollars letting people know that faster speeds are now here the reality is that once we change you there maybe a huge reduction in your speed , but will will place you in our cue if you do have problems and we endevour not to respond to your querys and problem for at least 3 weeks and pass you through several so called levels of tech teams , and all the while charging you at full price while we endevour not to provide a solution or admit there is infact a problem with our new rollout which is effecting a higher percentage of our users than we are willing to admit. |

| 449038 | 2006-04-24 11:56:00 | Yes, sorry I was confusing the Data cap with the speed, which, as you say is Mb ps . It was about 15 months ago that I first got ADSL of sorts and my research at the time seemed to indicate that the Conklins were a cheap solution to a DSLAM . In fact, beleive it or not, I harrassed Telecom for about 12 months for them to put these in our local box . I had to get up a petition of 40 people who said they wanted broadband before Telecom 'upgraded' the local box . The thing that really gets me is that Gutting is getting more and more (like $3 . 0m last year) for giving us, the consumer, less and less . And the stupid government does nothing . Rob |

| 449039 | 2006-04-24 12:15:00 | Didn't you know Xtra is the most popular ISP in the country with over 500,000 customers, so the brochure tills me which came with my latest phone bill. Wonder how popular they would be if they didn't have the flash TV ads and fill 3 half pages of the newspaper with there colour ads. If all the other ISPs through out the country could afford these kind of ads where would Xtra be then. Trevor :) |
