449308 2006-04-25 02:08:00 Are the 802.11g wireless laptop cards from xtra to connect it wireless to the xtra wireless modem/router any good? 802.11g operates in the 2.4Ghz band that same as most cordless phones, microwaves etc. They say it'll work in a normal house, but i was reading if u use cordless phones microwaves anywhere in the house it'll drop the wireless connections and it'll cause problems. Anyone got a wireless modem/router and wireless network card for their laptop and using it in their house? lance4k (4644)
449309 2006-04-25 02:46:00 Well, I don't use any wireless equipment that Xtra sells, but I do have an 802.11g home network and haven't had any issues with interference. :) maccrazy (6741)
449310 2006-04-27 00:23:00 Can anyone tell me, when u install the wireless modem/router on ur pc via ethernet and run the configuration software, and then u install and plug in the wireless laptop card, how does the wireless laptop card know how to connect to the wireless modem/router? It doesn't connect automatically does it? Because then anyone could come to my house with a wireless laptop card and use my internet connection. I heard you need to program a HEX key into both the wireless modem/router and the wireless laptop card. How would I do this? lance4k (4644)
449311 2006-04-27 00:44:00 I think it depends on whether the card you brought had software / drivers with it.

If not, you may have to use the Wireless Network Setup Wizard under the Control Panel. (I think u have to install SP2 to get this).

This should let u configure whatever. I think u have to configure the router, so it picks the wireless PC's up around it. The HEX key I think you're talking about is for WEP / WPA, (or whatever the router / card supports). This is for encryption, so other people cant get into your system.

And configuring the wireless card, would be the same as if u were configuring a ethernet network. Dunno about the router side, I dont use one.
