| 448876 | 2006-04-23 21:39:00 | I've been signed up with Woosh for a few months now - the first month speeds were reasonably fast and acceptable (around the 300kbit/s mark), but since then it's gone constantly downhill to about 70kbit/s with horrible latency for the past month or so. I was getting ready to complain to Woosh today about the speed (or lack of), but this morning for some odd reason the speed has really picked up. I did several speed tests this morning and have been achieving around 450kbit/s. I live just outside the Wellington CBD uphill slightly. I haven't touched any of my modem settings, or aerial alignment etc. Does anyone know of any reason for this speed increase? Note that I have been signed up for the 500kb/s plan since I started. Have Woosh recently been upgrading equipment or something? |

| 448877 | 2006-04-24 04:38:00 | ahh another fellow Woosh user! :) My connection speeds/quality is almost entirelly dependant on the weather. On a fine day i may get up to around 250kbs - Im paying for 512kbs + "turbo". Today, overcast and raining on & off; speed: 64kbs. ....yeah thanks a bunch woosh. |

It seems to have something to do with when you connect to the network - I have just put a timer on my Woosh hardware which switches the power off at 2am, and re-connects at 2:30am. I think this may be partly responsible for the speed increase. I spoke to a Woosh rep today - who said that from 1 May they're supposed to be "rolling out 20x faster speeds" - though he did also say that on average you'll get 680kbit/s. Sounds promising... but given that my "500kbit/s" Woosh sometimes goes as low as around 40kbit/s, I'm not keeping my hopes too high. |

| 448880 | 2006-04-24 12:19:00 | oh i agree, if the connection is slow; sometimes turning modem off and on again can improve things! Also, I have found that when Woosh performs maintanence on one of their towers the modems track to the next nearest tower . The next nearest tower can in some cases be very far away! Where I am, im JUST able to reach one tower accross a large body of water - some 20KM away! When they do anything with that particular tower my connection fails completely - especially during bad weather when the modem cannot track to another tower . The pro's and con's of wireless! :) . . . this speed increase you mentioned sounds very promising!! BUILD ANOTHER TOWER NEAR ME PLEASE WOOSH!! :D :D :D |

| 448881 | 2006-04-24 21:25:00 | Well I live fairly close to central Wellington (uphill slightly), so there are no real excuses in terms of lack of cellsites etc. For some reason speeds have stayed reasonable (around 200kbit/s) over the last 24hrs, so I'm just going to wait and see if my tempoary "solution" is responsbile for it. | somebody (208) | ||
| 448882 | 2006-08-22 03:31:00 | I recently got woosh as was told to expect max speeds of 0.8 to 1.6 mbps. Yeah right. Currently I get around 250 kbps peaking at 450 according to the generous nzdsl.co.nz speedtests. Up is pretty close to the claimed 128kbps and sometimes faster. I got some interesting recommendations I thought I should share. "A delta of 6+ is required for optimal operation but above 12 delta may also cause sub optimal operation. The RSCP value should be within the range -60 to -90." Apparently a very strong signal isn't a good thing. Can anyone get a faster connection or should we ask the commerce commission to pay woosh a visit? Up to 1.6mbps should mean 1mbps is possible. |

Everyone else in your area got sick of it and left Woosh and you now have it to yourself? Woosh is now supposed to be 1 . 6Mbps . Helped a local farmer hook up a couple of weeks ago and he is in direct view of the tower and is getting around 600kbps . Still, better than dialup . |

| 448885 | 2006-08-22 05:57:00 | yeah for a while i was getting fullspeed. i.e 1.6meg down and 300kbps up. that was after the techy came but now im back down to about 800kbps. i hope they bring out wi-max or something faster that can atleast compete with ADSL | thomas09 (10276) | ||
