| 449922 | 2006-04-27 08:30:00 | OK, well my 'trusty' compaq presario has died tragically and I lack the skills to fix it this time..... System specs are.... Compaq Presario 7800 Win 98se 256mb ram 666mhz pentium 3 etc etc, just ask if theres anything else important I need to add. It had been going, I uninstalled Norton anti virus, which then got me error messages at boot about missing system files (symantec), but would still boot with some persuasion.... Then today, it went absolutely mad. I tryed scanreg /restore for a few days ago. But it still won't boot, at the moment it gets to the windows 98 load screen, and then tells me that its missing multiple system files blah blah blah, then tells me that it is now safe to turn off my computer.... What the hell? Any things that I can try would be greatly appreciatated..... |

| 449929 | 2006-04-27 13:21:00 | When my Win98SE did what yours is doing I used the Ultimate Boot Disk to fix it, Not the one on this page but it seems very similar, of course you will choose the Win98SE one. If all else fails it is worth a try. I thought my system was finished but in about five minutes I fixed it and I knew very little. www.docsdownloads.com By the way there is no system restore on Win98SE only WinME and XP have it. |

| 449930 | 2006-04-28 08:45:00 | Ok, so its booting now, Only after telling me that lots of norton files are missing... Buut, its stuck in 256 colours and a really horrible resolution..... Shall I attempt to upgrade the drivers now? The Graphics card is a Diamond Stealth III 16mb S540.....Its nothing but trouble, but it does the job..... |
