2006-04-25 23:11:00 | Hi. I'm wanting to make a really basic website that i can sell a few items on. I don't no hardly anything about webpage design, and on the basics with database, but i don't really have teh time to sit aroudn teaching myself how to create a site. i really only want something basic, i'm thinking of something were all i do is input a Title, Price, Shipping Rate, Picture, Description, and a Catergory, and it will automatically enter it into the site, under the Coresponding catergory. Now, is there like a free webservice that can do all this for me, or something relatively expensive? Or can anymore offer some suggestions? Cheers

2006-04-26 11:35:00 | Hey, thanks for the replies and to those that PMd me. If i went to a webhost (like webbase) i was told they have shopping cart scripts you can add, but for that to work, will i have to develop a website first, and then is it hard implenting it (shopping cart) all in? I don't need anything flash, don't want credit card payments or anything, to tell you the truth, i don't even need a shopping cart system. All i want is something that is really easy to setup, then whenever i get a new product i can just input some data, upload a picture, and it will be added to the page. How many items - not alot, 50 items, maybe more later on, spread across 10 or so catergories. The situation is that i seel stuff on TM, and buyers sometimes email me saying 'do i have this, how much for that etc' so i just wanted a place to refer them to, then they can just email me saying '2 of these please'. And i'll just look around a bit more Greg, but thanks for the offer. Cheers

If that's the case then you really don't need an e-commerce facility. What I'd do in your case is simply place a thumbnail image of each item on its appropriate page, link it to a larger image, and have an email link beneath each item with a subject referral. In other words, a potential customer simply clicks the link and clicks send in their email client, and you get a message from them with the product in the subject line. Easy peasy. ps: If you want a website with what I described above, I can set that up for you. |

2006-04-27 01:02:00 | Hey, what you said Greg is true, but i'm still after a simple way to update it. Ok, say we have the website up and running, it has numerous pages for each catergory. What i'm wanting is to be able to go to a page on the site, and it will have a upload box, and i enter in data (ie, Name of product, description, upload a picture, price etc) into appropriate forms, click upload, anand it adds to teh site. So i'm thinking something like a database system here??

2006-04-27 01:09:00 | So i'm thinking something like a database system here??Nah nothing that complex is required. You should have a webhost that provides you with a control panel, such as cPanel. This is a simple means of managing your site's contents. A better but slightly more advanced solution is to use an FTP programme to upload your modified pages. Either of the above require you to be able to edit your pages on your own computer, which means either a knowledge of html and/or a wysiwyg editor (there are some good free ones), as well as a graphics manipulation programme (again, there are some good free ones).

2006-04-27 01:18:00 | They are all database driven, normally MySQL. You would just login to your websites backend as an admin and update away. Change, add, remove, process orders. You dont have to do any of the trickie stuff your-self, unless you want to highly customise the look/layout of the site. You just install the script of your choice, it sets up the database for you. If you want some free space and a script installed so you can have a play let me know. Someone else(DanielF I think) here offers free web space for PF1 users, they may also have the scripts avaliable for you.
