449765 2006-05-05 00:52:00 the reason i swaped the gfx cards over was to see if it was the gfx card causing the errors or not, but because it was not an ati like my old one, i think the reason why it was giving errors was because of bad drivers. the 430w psu is fine for the system, its not exactly power hungry.
Athlon 64 3000
2x80gb sata drives
9600xt
1gb ram
DVD writer

and it is a 430w thermaltake pure power, so im fairly confident its sufficient. im just wondering, before i waste $150 on a new graphics card, how can i determine exactly that its the graphics card, not say the hard drive causing the problem.

yes, i did a complete and full install.

449766 2006-05-05 00:56:00 If you've had an ATI and a Nvidia card in this system I would use Drivecleaner to get rid of both of them completely.

Uninstall BOTH the ATI and Nvidia drivers in add/remove programs. Then do what I posted in the previous post.

When you run Drivercleaner in safe mode, select ATI and then Nvidia. Wait for it to finish removing all traces of both. Then reboot.

Then install the latest Nvidia drivers. Then reboot.

I had a similar prob here. I used to use a 128mb Nvidia based card, then changed to an ATI 256mb card (only coz its got a DVI connection on it).

And this used to freeze as well. BUT since using Drivercleaner, it hasnt happened since.

449767 2006-05-05 00:59:00 its just bloody annoying, it honestly wont stay on without it freezing, or im now getting blue screens, and i cant for the life of me figure out if its the graphics card or not, i jave a very strong suspision, but i cant afford to waste $150 on a graphics card if mine is alright, and its something else. i really need to isolate and find out what component it is. 449768 2006-05-05 01:01:00 So whats the blue screen say?? Does it give u the name of a driver?? Speedy Gonzales (78)

449770 2006-05-05 08:48:00 me and a tech i know stripped it down, and narrowed it down to either the motherboard or the graphics card, we are 99% sure its the motherboard, BUT it could very well be the graphics card, or the hard drive, i dont have a utility to test to see if a hard drive is dodgy or not, its a western digital sata. 449771 2006-05-05 09:02:00 Well, if theyre all under warranty, take them all back, and get replacements. Speedy Gonzales (78)
449772 2006-05-05 09:07:00 2 years old, not under warranty at all Tux (606)
449773 2006-05-07 12:37:00 i can take the hard drives out of the equation, i tested them with data lifeguard software with a deep test and no errors, im thinking its the graphics card, is there any software to test for this? Tux (606)
449774 2006-05-08 00:50:00 bump please!. Tux (606)
